Man In Possession Of Drugs In Parking Lot Of Local Retailer
Law enforcement officials arrested a Lawrenceburg man during the weekend after they found that he was in possession of a considerable amount of narcotics in the parking lot of a local retailer.
Shelley Zuriel Young, age 21, of 2112 Dawn Avenue was arrested Sunday afternoon after law enforcement officials received a tip, indicating that he was in possession of illegal drugs.
Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department arrested Young shortly after 2:00 p.m. in the vicinity of Walmart on North Locust Avenue.
Department detectives report that when they approached the vehicle they found Young and his sister inside. They report that once they made contact the sister began to have a panic attack and emergency medical personnel were summoned to the scene.
They report that while Young was assisting his sister they noticed two plastic bags containing what appeared to be narcotics lying in plain view inside their Ford Explorer.
Detectives report that when they told Young he was being placed under arrest and asked that he place his hands behind his back, he shoved one of them out of his way and fled on foot, heading south toward the adjacent Manor Drive Apartments.
Young was quickly captured in a small wooded area south of the drainage ditch. During a subsequent search of his vehicle officers report seizing 2.9 grams of synthetic marijuana along with 3.91 grams of crack cocaine.
Young was arrested on charges that include possession of crack cocaine for the purpose of resale, illegal possession of synthetic marijuana, evading arrest, and assault of a police officer. He was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was processed without further incident.
Young is scheduled to answer the charges against him in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on March 7, 2014. When reports were filed he remained incarcerated in lieu of a bond of $40,000.
At the time of his arrest detectives noted that Young had been free on bond in connection with previous charges of possession of crack cocaine.
